DIEP flap breast reconstruction involves the transfer of a flap of fat and skin tissue from the abdomen to the chest. DIEP stands for Deep Inferior Epigastric Perforator. The DIEP flap gets its blood supply from perforator veins, which are veins connecting the deeper veins to the ones closer to the skin’s surface. Their paths go through the fascia, the sheets of fibrous connective tissues around the muscles.
