Case Details
This young lady was very unhappy with the fact that her breast failed to develop. She complained that she felt as if she “looked like a young boy instead of a young woman”. She wanted to have a small augmentation to change this, but she did not want to be too large. Because had little to no breast tissue to cover the top of an implant, a decision was made to use the dual plane technique. In this technique, the pectorals muscle is lifted and a pocket is created under the muscle to accommodate the implant. The center portion of the muscle is then divided from its lower sternal attachemtnns so that the muscle can relax and reflect upward covering the upper portion of the device to give extra bulk and tissue to hide the edge of the implant and avoid effects of visible rippling. The lower portion of the device is then allowed to relax into the lower pole of the breast giving it a rounded, natural appearance. This was transformative for this young lady who now says that she is “finally comfortable in her own body”.
