Banana rolls, muffin tops, bat wings: stubborn fat has some wonderfully weird nicknames. At my Guilford and Mystic practices, I treat these areas with liposuction and, when loose skin is part of the picture, with body contouring surgery such as a thigh lift or body lift. Here’s your vocabulary lesson, and what can be done about each one.
Banana Rolls
These are the banana-shaped pockets just below the buttocks. Exercise rarely reaches this in-between zone. Liposuction can reduce the fat. If the skin has loosened, a thigh lift or lower body lift can tighten it as part of the same plan. Learn more in my previous blog post.
Muffin Tops
This is the bulge that peeks out over tight pants. It is often fat stored across the hips, back, and abdomen together. Liposuction of the waist and flanks smooths the area. When excess skin is also present, a body lift addresses both.
Bat Wings
Few people are thrilled about excess fat on the upper arms. Liposuction can slim the area. If skin hangs loose, an arm lift is the better choice.
Double Chin
Submental fullness is common, even in people who stay fit. Liposuction of the neck and chin can improve neck and jawline definition.
Love Handles
The pockets of fat on the hips can contribute to a muffin top. Liposuction lets us reduce them while keeping natural curves.
Saddlebags
These deposits build on the outer upper thighs. Liposuction contours them, and a thigh lift is an option when skin has loosened.
Cankles
The area is small and delicate, so we take a conservative approach and talk through what’s realistic at your consultation.
If weight is also part of your goals, we offer GLP-1 medications for weight reduction. Many patients combine medical weight loss with body contouring once they reach a stable weight.
Not sure which bulge you have, or what to do about it? A consultation is the place to start. Call our Guilford office at (203) 689-5295 or request your visit online.
