Body contouring procedures are an excellent way to remove excess fat and slim down the body. At our Guilford, CT, practice, liposuction is the most common choice, and sometimes it’s paired with skin-tightening surgery. How can you tell which approach fits you?
How liposuction works
Liposuction is a classic procedure for trimming curves and sculpting the body. A thin tube called a cannula is inserted into the treatment area to break up and suction out unwanted fatty tissue. It can be used on the arms, back, abdomen, flanks, thighs, and neck. It also pairs well with other surgeries, including mommy makeovers. Patients may have swelling or slight discomfort for about 2 weeks and should be fully healed by about 6 weeks after surgery.
When liposuction alone is enough
Liposuction works best when your skin has good elasticity and the concern is stubborn fat that won’t respond to diet or exercise.
When skin tightening matters
If you also have loose or excess skin, removing fat alone may leave the area looking less smooth. In those cases, we may combine liposuction with a tummy tuck, thigh lift, arm lift, or body lift.
Choosing what’s best for you
The right plan depends on where the fat is, your skin quality, your goals, and your comfort with surgery. Your surgeon can walk you through your options. If weight loss is part of your goal, we also offer GLP-1 medications for weight reduction.
